Restart to UEFI

Here is an easy wait to boot into UEFI if you have been struggling to find the correct boot key.

While your windows 8 computer is turned on go to the power options charm and highlight "Restart" now while holding down the "SHIFT" key press restart.

As your computer boots up it will load the UEFI boot screen.

Downgrading Windows 8...

This is just a quick post with regards to windows 8 downgrades.

I had a few teething problems with a machine I tried to downgrade the other day and thought it may be worth sharing with you as this can also help if you installing new hardware into your windows 8 machine.

What I am talking about it Legacy mode in the bios of new machines.
This allows the user to install certain hardware and has also helped me install windows 7 a little easier.

Follow the steps below if you have been having issues downgrading windows 8 or installing new hardware.

How to change your bios to legacy mode:

  1. Access your bios by tapping either (ESC, F2 or DEL) as you turn your computer on (depending on your computer it could be either one of these)
  2. Locate hardware settings or common settings inside bios and there you should see an option to turn on "legacy Mode"
  3. Save the changes and restart your computer.

Use a mouse on a phone or tablet?

Did you know...

On some android tablets and phones you are able to buy a USB adapter which allows you to connect multiple devices to them.

Depending of the capabilities of the handset some of these can be:

  • Mouse
  • Keyboard
  • Storage stick

I have even used an application which took control of my SLR camera!!!

I found this quite useful for example:

I connected my tablet to my TV using the HDMI socket and then connect a wireless keyboard and mouse and used it like a computer.

Facebook Scam!

So..

I was helping someone check there computer for a virus the other day and was told about another scam people are trying to pull on Facebook here is the gist of it:

  1. They create a fake Facebook profile of you.
  2. They invite as many people they can which you may know.
  3. They then try asking these people to borrow money pretending to be you.
  4. Very naughty

I have got to admit I have only heard this from one person but none the less its something to look out for and let others know so they don't get scammed.

Do Solid State Drivers really make a difference?

YES

I mainly use my laptop.
Not the fastest thing in the world it is only a I3 with 8GB of ram

BUT
The speed it can load programs and boot into windows is amazing I find it a drag waiting for a standard drive to load while I am setting up other people computers.

I can only imagine the difference it would do to a gaming machine.

Wireless not working?

As rare as this maybe I have known this happen to myself and a few other people I know.

All other wireless devices in the house are connecting to your wireless router and working fine expect one or two.

Working in retail I have known people to come into store just to find that there computers wireless works fine on my wireless network but not there's.

The solution to this is........... You guessed it "Have your tired turning it off and on again?"

Just simply unplugging your wireless router for about 30 seconds can sometimes fix this issue and allow your computer to connect to the internet again.

From what I can gather this is a conflict of IP address's but has worked for me and several others.

So if your internet doesn't working try turning it off and on again.
